It is hard to believe that 2020 is over. A lot happened in one year, but what sticks out the most to me is that we were able to put our feet to the pavement and get things done. I know “things” is relative to who is reading this, but in my instance this is what I mean.
In 2020, I saw people rallying to get through some hard times regardless if it were in person with masks, without masks, virtually, or through window panes. My grandfather was a Southern Baptist pastor from Mississippi and he would always quote Jeremiah 29:11 whenever we thought we knew what was better for us as adolescents. Somehow, it still rings ever so true for 2020.

I had countless conferences planned, vacations booked, and special moments thought out. All to be cancelled. Right before Thanksgiving, I was thinking about how Jeremiah 29:11 really applied to 2020. The things I thought were important weren’t really that important. Yes 2020 brought a lot of sad and turbulent times, but it also brought communion. So many lives have been touched by others sharing acts of kindness and giving. We pulled through knowing we had others behind us – at least 6 ft ? – routing for our safety and showing love.
I started thinking about 2021 and questions fluttered my brain. What all new things can arise from a new year? What am I bringing over into 2021 from 2020? How and what can I do better? How can I motivate, inspire, repair, build, and/or grow myself and others around me? The one thing I do know is that I am surrounded by people who think the same things. They want to be and do better. They want to motivate, inspire, repair, build, and/or grow alongside one another. And this isn’t just personal growth, this applies to our professional development here at Hometown Quotes.
